Located in Beijing Poly
Plaza, Poly Theatre has started to hold international artistic
events since 1991. There have been more than 3,000 music,
dance and drama shows performed by 300 local and international
companies held here. It is the major venue for many important
arts activities, including the annual Beijing Music Festival.
After the reconstruction in October 2000, Poly Theatre has
been enlarged into 1,428 seats, eight balcony boxes and two
VIP boxes. Both of the audio and lighting system adopt the
world-top brand facilities, and can meet with the various
need of different artistic companies. The stage-house machinery
system is computer operated. The main stage is electric-operated,
consisting of six pieces of double-level, three-dimensional
and elevating stage. The rear stage consists of a moving revolving
rostrum. The setting booms at Poly Theatre are unique, with
the manually and electrically operated pipes setting interactively
to adapt the various requirements of different shows. In addition,
the audio effect within the theatre is first-class, good at
holding operas, symphony concerts, ballet dances, musicals
and other kinds of performances.
Based on its strong financial situation, technical condition
and professional management, Poly Theatre is famed as running
the first-class service and arts performances. The renowned
artistic companies such as Arena di Verona, Theatre Wielki-National
Opera Warsaw, Russian National Philharmonic Orchestra, Czech
Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Singapore
Symphony Orchestra, China Philharmonic Orchestra, China Central
Symphony Orchestra, China Central Opera Theatre, China Central
Ballet have performed here. They performed operas like Massenet’s
Werther, Veridi’s La Traviata, Tosca and Nabbuco, ballet dances
such as The Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet, The Nutcracker (Chinese
version) and Raising the Red Lantern. World-famous musicians
like the conductor Christopher Penderecki, Vladimir Ashkenazy,
Lorin Maazel, Michel Plasson, Long Yu, Lan Shui, Lu Jia and
Tang Muhai; celloist Julian Lloyd Weber, Mischa Maisky, Jian
Wang; violinist Maxim Vengarov, Lakatos and Zhaoliang Lin;
Pianist Martha Argerich, Fu Cong, Li Yundi, Chen Sa and Lang
Lang; soprano Cheryl Studer, Kathleen Battle, Barbara Hendricks
have all performed at Poly Theatre. Poly Theatre has also
created original modern dances like Wild Zebra, Tibet Antelope,
and the drama The Capper. |
